Cat Fact: Tama the Kitty Stationmaster

Cat Fact: Tama the Kitty Stationmaster

It's okay if your cat gets jealous.

Tama was a kitty train stationmaster in Kinokawa, Japan whose fame made over 1 billion yen. A stray, Tama was adopted by the Kishi Line station manager, Toshiko Koyama, in 2004. A few years later after staffing was cut, Tama was named the Kishi Line Stationmaster. Instead of a financial salary, Tama was given plenty of food and a custom made, kitty-sized station master's hat.
Only seems fair.
People loved her so much that ridership spiked, and by the end of her career, she had contributed 1.1 billion yen for the local economy. Tama became so famous that she was knighted and had a train debut in her honor with cartoon versions of her on it! After six years of working, Tama had been promoted several times and eventually was named Honorary President of the Wakayama Electric Rail for life.
When Tama passed in 2015, thousands of fans came to pay their respects to the famous stationmaster kitty. After Tama passed, her 5 year old apprentice, Nitama, was named the new stationmaster. Nitama of course, was taken to pay her respects to Tama at her shrine.

A true rags to riches story.

Has your cat ever made you that much money?
